Keeping The Piece Western Investment Art – Buy-Art-Sell-Art

After doing some research about this 18 x 24″ oil in canvas painting, produced for a wrap around book jacket, front right portion and back left, I came to realize, besides folks moving west, the Santa Fe Trail became a route from the 1820s to 1860s to Mexico trading goods. Sadly, history tells us there is not much left of the old wild cattle town Dodge City, however, one can find things in history books that take you back in time.

Dodge 1800

If You Look Closely this is the spot this painting was originated except, for some artistic changes in the background, I added some mountains and smaller buildings.

Dodge City

Did you know that Dodge City lay near the Arkansas River?

Some of the things I discovered is that there was a trail of hard liquor going down to Fort Dodge, wouldn’t you know.

Tons of bison were slaughtered with the arrival if the iron train that could ship tons of bison pelts eastward.

Then Finally Hunting season was over in 1883 for Bison. And Cattle took its place, then meat and grain to kept the economy of Dodge City afloat.
